Note From the Editor
We are overwhelmed by the generosity of your response to our "End of the Year Matching Donation Program" sponsored, once again, by Debra Dove and Rich Masterson. Because of you we continue to have the luxury of never refusing an Irish Setter entry into our Rescue Program regardless of age or medical needs. Many dogs have significant medical problems which must be addressed prior to placement in their "forever homes". In 2007 we placed a record 39 Irish Setters! It saddens us all to think of our redheads as "throw away" pets but unfortunately more and more of them are just that, showing up in humane societies throughout Northern CA.

The financial assistance provided by our families is wonderful. Would any of you consider fostering a dog? Our current foster families rarely refuse to take "just one more dog" but, with the number of dogs we have been caring for recently, we are running out of temporary housing options. Fostering is very rewarding. It is usually a short term commitment consisting of evaluating the setter (are they housebroken, leash broken, trained, etc.) getting them cleaned up and groomed and to the vet. If you can help, please contact Paul. We would be happy to train you and provide any necessary assistance.

As this issue of the newsletter goes to press we need two foster homes. Please contact Paul (707) 823-1422 or DOOFIETEAH@aol.com.

Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL)
Did you know that rescue Irish Setters that are not AKC (American Kennel Club) registered are eligible for a new PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) program offered by AKC? Securing a PAL number for your dog will allow him to compete in AKC hunting and obedience events. Irish Setters were bred to hunt game birds.

If you would like to find out more about hunting and/or obedience, please join us at the ISCP (Irish Setter Club of the Pacific) Fun-A-Fair. It is held at the Hastings Island Hunt Club the weekend of May 10th. You will have the opportunity to train your dog to hunt and actually have him run in the field. It is awesome to observe the hunting instinct surface and see your dog have the time of his life! Additionally, there are obedience events which you can either observe or actually participate in. Who knows, you might get hooked and want to get a PAL number so you can continue participating in these activities!!

We will have more information about the Fun-A-Fair in our next newsletter. Please check our web site for updates about rescue including information about available dogs for adoption. Our webmaster, Sue Payne, does a fantastic job, and the web site is your best opportunity to be appraised of rescue events.

Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade
Sponsored by the Dublin Lion's Club
COME JOIN US SATURDAY MARCH 15 & STRUT YOUR STUFF WITH YOUR IRISH SETTER!

NorCal I.S. Rescue participants meet for the parade line up at 9:00 A.M. on Amador Plaza Road, near PetSmart. Look for the rescue group gathering in the PetSmart parking lot.

PARADE BEGINS AT 9:30 A.M.

Once again this year the parade has a new route with part of it still on Dublin Boulevard. We will not receive the new route information until 2 weeks prior to the parade so we have decided to still meet up at the same location we always do. More than 60 floats will travel the route led by the Grand Marshals from Bray, Ireland. The parade also features local groups such as marching bands, bagpipers & emergency service vehicles all wrapped in green.
